The Black Christmas Tree

By now you have probably gotten your Christmas tree and decorated it to the hilt. I know magneto has her tree and it is currently on display in her bathroom. While bathroom trees do not seem to be a trend for the holiday season of 2007, evidently a black Christmas tree is.

Ivy had an interesting post over at Shakhammer about the Black Christmas Tree being a hot trend in trees for 2007…….

“The Black Christmas Tree is a hot tree trend in 2007! The high gloss needles on the downswept branches add elegance and drama to your holiday decor.”

Now, when I was a kid, flocked trees were hip, and I agree with Ivy that pink trees can be kitschy in a Jonathan Adler sort of way, but seriously folks…….black? It seems like something the Grinch would put up.

The bloggers over at Casa Sugar have a poll going that allows you to vote on whether or not you like the idea of a Black Christmas Tree and believe it or not, out of 400 votes, 50% hate it and 41% love it.

I am in total disbelief as to why anyone in their right mind would want a black Christmas tree to celebrate a season of joy and love. But to each his own I suppose. What do you think?

That is horrible! There is no way I would do a white tree, a black tree, a pink tree, or an upside tree. Call me a traditionalist, but a tree is supposed to be green.

    Amen!

Hmmm, it may just be the designer in me, but I think a black tree could be cool. I’ve seen trees in nature that were such a dark green they looked black.

I had an aunt and uncle growing up who had a blue tree, and it always weirded me out.

I ended up with a pink tree this year. I let my daughter pick out our tree. We recently moved and all our ornaments, tree and everything Christmas we cannot get to. I decided that I did not want to re purchase what I all ready owned. So, Christmas being all about the children. I decided to let my daughter who is 5 pick out the tree. She saw the pink and went nuts for it. We got lots of glittery ornaments. Ornament theme is gingerbread men. With a few must have gymnastic ornament. I think it will be fun. Whatever makes my girly girl happy. :) Merry Christmas everyone :)

I absolutely agree with you, although there’s a Death Star decor aspect of a black tree which I kind of like… I bet Lord Vader had a black Christmas tree in his special breathy resty pod thing.

    Cheers

I do think this would be an awesome prop for Halloween though, especially where I am in the north…cover it in twinkling black lights and orange lights…very Nightmare Before Christmas like. I can’t say much though, I have a huge white tree…*lol* I could get the black one and go for the whole ying and yang motif. :)

Interesting concept I suppose… I like the idea of putting up a black tree for Halloween tho!

I’m actually searching for black Christmas ornaments for my daughters tree. She has a silver tree this year, with only crystal, silver and black ornaments on it, and clear lights. I honestly didn’t think I would like it, until I saw it. It’s really very striking! … and it’s so her!

I bought a black tree this year for my family. I was excited. Black is our favorite color. I decorated it with silver bells, sliver with velvet black swirl ribbons, and round colored ornaments. I love my tree!!!!

It seem that a black Christmas indicates a disrespect of the purity of the Virgin birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Black is traditionally a color regarding death. Jesus came to give life, and give it more abundantly.

A black tree, decorated all in white accessories would look fantastic. I love the idea of the black tree, currently I have the martha stewart silver tree that came out bout four years ago, I love it and dont have to put lights on it, just spot it with a halogen spot light and all my ornaments pop.
