The World of Adcraft

2007 October 12

For every 15 year old boy who is counting down the days until he doesn’t have to drive with mom or dad in the front seat anymore…….

And to the same teenage boy that stays up until 3am battling dragons and venturing in to mortal combat across the globe…….

This Flek’s for you!

“While gamers are the first ones to embrace the power of machinima, legitimate advertisers aren’t far behind. Sure, they’ve used video game images to sell actual video games for years, but Toyota and advertising firm Saatchi & Saatchi have taken things in an entirely new direction with this ad, helpfully uploaded by direktor I Like Turtles for the Tacoma pickup truck.”

Not only does this ad makes it’s point with the toughness of the Toyota Tacoma but what teenager wouldn’t want to drive a truck right into the mouth of his enemy and come barreling out with his enemy’s heart in his hand (or in this case, in his bed)? I tell you…..this ad will sell trucks! What do you think?

I have never seen this game (or any of this genre) but my husband enjoys playing V8 Supercars on Xbox and I was amazed by the number of cleverly-placed advertisements around the racetrack. I suppose it was inevitable that someone would find a way to sell something to the war-gamers, but trucks? Well, you never know.

Well I just got of legal age and i’m dreading the day I get my license because I’m on the sacrifical plate to be “driver” of the family. lol. But yeah, I would like a truck! :D

Lol I’ve seen this and loved it because it’s so damn funny.

It’s like I was the only person who didn’t see this! And I was watching the channel it was on!

I haven’t seen this before either, so don’t feel too left out. And as much as I personally hate the co-mingling of products and advertising, that was a great ad.

Now, will it sell trucks to a generation of kids who don’t get outside much? Only time will tell.

    Joe- I can’t imagine that it wouldn’t.

Ron_ I had not seen this either and football is always on in our house.

Ashish- welcome to my world. I consider myself the family bus driver. Wait till you have kids!

Trish- I don’t even play these games but still, there is just something about it that I love.

Ah the family bus driver. What my mother says about herself…before she found out that buses were free for us kids.

    Wait till you have kids!
Is that a threat or a warning? :P

LOL. Probably a little of both.

True lol…and plus the price for adults is sky high (what I’ll be paying in December) so I’m thinking it may be cheaper to learn how to drive.

Well, maybe you should ask Santa for one of these Tacoma Trucks. The ad makes me want one.
